Gaelic Animation - Daft test piece

Submitted by Cailean on Sat, 06/03/2017 - 11:53

This amused me no end - captured audio first with Audition, non-scripted basic phrases of introduction. Edit pauses and errors out.

Important that and then lip sync. Then manage the head movements, eyes, etc in each pass.  Then keyboard based input. Pay attention to eye movements and blinks.

Young guy face portrait

Submitted by Cailean on Sat, 05/20/2017 - 15:44

This was largely constructed using the Illustrator Pencil tool and other really useful tools in it's group such as the Smooth Tool. All the darker areas were blocked out with drawn vector paths and filled in with colour (on layer per colour) and the lightest tone simply filling in everything else from underneath.

Vector young man

Submitted by Cailean on Thu, 05/18/2017 - 14:26

This is probably my first real attempt at vector full length view of an individual in a simplified style, but not flat (ie details like folds in clothes etc). What became interesting was how to block out shapes that in overlap in nature (and in Illustrator layers overlap too!!). The face and chest are interesting as the chest is underneath the t-shirt and jacket, but the face is above the jacket, so to speak.

Constructivist Style Poster

Submitted by Cailean on Tue, 05/16/2017 - 16:14

I made a copy of a classic Soviet Constructivist-style poster, largely to understand this form better. I began by laying out guides, intially think to do it in a diamond pattern (square at 45 degress), but then deciding on mostly straight vertical and some horizontal guides, intersecting at key points of interest where multiple forms collided. I kept them in the same layer as the original image.

Flyer for General Election 2017 Hustings

Submitted by Cailean on Mon, 05/15/2017 - 15:16

This is a joint Trades Union initiative, and it was requested whether I could produce a flier. It is based on a template from FreePix (http://www.freepik.com/free-vector/corporate-brochure-with-circular-shapes_1042039.htm#term=flyer&page=1&position=2) but modified significantly.
The circular motive retains the cool muted colours, but a flat-icon style voting theme was created instead. The excess was clipped off at the end.

Social Media ad - EU

Submitted by Cailean on Mon, 05/15/2017 - 15:11

This was constructed to advertise and event on EU withdrawal, emphasising the nature of the EU as it stands.

The CC background image is cooled to contrast against the dynamic red arrow pointing leftwards. The raised fist is a component I developed previously, made with the Pen tool and shaded using a series of Blend techniques. The text was placed by eyeballing a dynamic, eye-catching flow.

Calendar Flat Icon

Submitted by Cailean on Mon, 05/15/2017 - 14:32

I needed a calendar "icon" style image, so quickly created this in the "flat icon" style. Much use of the "move" function, recalled by Cntrl D each time needed to repeat the move. Eg the "dates" was a rectangle repeated 7 times in total, with the "weekends" coloured differently (here red). That whole row was then moved down for the next "week", then that repeated Cntrl D. I lasoed a few days off the end of the last row as calendars tends to look so.

Old Style Logo 1

Submitted by Cailean on Thu, 04/27/2017 - 19:32

I enjoyed this first attempt at a timeless old-style logo. Notable lessons learned were creating an artistic brush by creating a small filled ellipse, then setting the end points to straight angles. Drag that shape into the brushes panel. You can then apply this to paths, giving a calligraphic quality to flowing line ornaments.

The repeated wavy background line was created by pen tool line as long as the box, then applying Effect: Distort: Zig Zag
Resulting line was copied to bottom, then a Blend applied of 20 steps.
