Retro Christmas

Today whilst getting needed supplies here and there in Glasgow (Byres Rd and St Enoch), I was greeted with some proper retro Christmas goodies from yesteryear!

Walnut Whips! "Launched in 1910, Walnut Whip is Nestlé’s oldest current brand. It was previously made by Duncan's of Edinburgh. Almost one Walnut Whip is eaten every 2 seconds in the UK." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walnut_Whip

Updated Site December 2016

I have decided to switch my technological allegiances - from Joomla Content Management System to Drupal 8 CMS.

Joomla did me proud over the years, and I'll happily say hello to it and keep it on my Christmas card list. But what I had regarded as it's poorer cousin, Drupal, has grown up rapidly into a rather powerful solution for building constant and easy to manage websites.

So, in that I'm likely to be using it more in the future, it makes sense to bring it into play to power CMacAulay.org

Here's to the future!

Loving the "idea" as opposed to reality

This is one of my favourite sketches of all time. "Frog Lady" didn't appear often in the BBC sketch series of Little Britain - but when she did it was pretty full on (to say the least). But there is also a profound way in which we can profess to "love" the idea of something, yet be utterly divorced from it in reality ... Yeah I know, I've probably taken it all a bit too far :)

Helpful Gaelic Phrase for 'Fairtrade'?

I was delighted to see plenty of excellent Gaelic signage in Lewis and especially Stornoway in my recent trip, and I believe it helps cement a sense of acceptance and pride for our language which we haven't always had - in fact which we have rarely had.  That said, I couldn't help but wonder if there wasn't a better "helpful Gaelic phrase" which could have described the Co-op Fairtrade Espresso Bar?
